Prof. Giuseppe Andrea Ferro is Full Professor in Structural Mechanics and he is Head of the Department of Structural, Building and Geotechnical Engineering of Politecnico di Torino.

He received his Master Degree in Civil Engineering at University of Catania in 1988, and his PhD in Structural Engineering at Politecnico di Torino, IT, in 1994.
His research interests include the fracture mechanics of concretes, scale effects, mechanical behaviour of innovative and sustainable cementitious materials, seismic analysis of existing structures, bridges assessment.
He is chairman of the European Structural Integrity Society (ESIS) Technical Committee-9 on Concrete. He sits on the Executive Committee of ESIS as treasurer. He is a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the journal Frattura e Integrità Strutturale.
He has served as Guest Editor to Theoretical and Applied Fracture Mechanics and Fatigue and Fracture of Engineering Materials and Structures on several occasions.
He has been Member of the Italian Superior Council for Public Works, from 2008 to 2017, President of the Italian Group of Fracture (IGF), 2004-2009, Secretary of the European Structural Integrity Society (ESIS), 2002-06.
He has participated to several Technical Committees for Technical Codes in Italy and member of Tender Committees for Assignment of important Public Works, as well as structural consultant for many collapses and safety assessments.
He is the author of over 170 scientific papers on the subjects of damage and fracture of structural materials, influence of material microstructure on the mechanical properties, size effects, brittle collapse of large structures, fiber-reinforced materials, high-performance concretes, seismic performance on existing structures, bridge collapses.
