Michael Vormwald
Technische Universität Darmstadt
Germany
Professor Vormwald received his doctorate from the Technische Universität Darmstadt (TUDa) with a thesis on life prediction under variable amplitude load. As a test engineer and project manager at Industrieanlagen-Betriebsgesellschaft mbH, he gained practical experience in structural durability designing of mechanical engineering structures. He continued his scientific career with appointments as professor at the Jena University of Applied Sciences, the Bauhaus University Weimar and to this day at the TUDa. His research concentrates on all aspects of deformation and failure processes with a special focus on fatigue strength. He has published over 100 articles and conference papers, most of which are based on well over 100 technical reports on research into the strength of materials and structures. He is Chairman of the Fracture Mechanics and Component Safety Working Group of the German Association for Materials Research and Testing (DVM).
